Guvernul accepta revenirea la denumirea de tigan

Guvernul este de acord cu schimbarea denumirii oficiale din rom in tigan, sustind astfel o initiativa parlamentara a depututul PDL Silviu Prigoana. Decizia Executivului se bazeaza pe recomandarea Academiei Romane si pe faptul ca termenul de tigan este folosit in majoritatea statelor Uniunii Europene.
Deputatul PDL Siviu Prigoana a initiat in septembrie un proiect de lege, prin care propune intoarcerea la denumirea de tigan, dupa ce presedintele Traian Basescu declarase intr-un interviu la un post de televiziune ca a fost o greseala schimbarea denumirii acestei etnii in rom.
El a argumentat faptul ca numele de rom a creat o confuzie in randul europenilor, care nu au mai facut diferenta intre romi si romani.
Pe de alta parte, mai multe organizatii civice ale etniei rome au manifestat marti in fata Guvernului impotriva intentiei de schimbare a denumirii, sustinand ca denumirea de tigan are conotatii negative.
