Oracolul Cupei Mondiale din Africa de Sud, caracatita Paul, a decedat, a anuntat marti acvariul din Oberhausen (Germania), informeaza AFP. “Paul a murit linistit in timpul noptii, din cauza naturale”, a explicat conducerea acvariului, intr-un comunicat. Conducerea acvariului si-a exprimat regretul pentru moartea cefalopodului apreciind insa ca este sigura de faptul ca aceasta a “avut o viata buna”.
Paul a avut dreptate in toate predictiile facute cu ocazia Cupei Mondiale din Africa de Sud, inclusiv la finala, cand a prezis victoria nationalei Spaniei in finala cu Olanda. Caracatita a prezis si victoria Germaniei, in finala mica a CM, cu Uruguay.
Recent, Paul a primise o statueta de bronz din partea unei delegatii spaniole, fiind numit si “cetatean de onoare” in Carballino (oras din nord-estul Spaniei), pentru calitatile sale de prezicator.
Caracatita Paul si-a dovedit impartialitatea in privinta drapelului Germaniei in faza grupelor, cand a prezis ca nationala antrenata de Joachim Low va fi invinsa de Serbia. Paul a mai prezis victoriile Germaniei in meciurile din grupa cu Australia si Ghana, dar si pe cea in fata Angliei, din optimi, o noua dovada de impartialitate, avand in vedere faptul ca provine dintr-un acvariu englez. In sferturile de finala, Paul a pronosticat victoria Germaniei in fata Argentinei, apoi infrangerea nationalei antrenate de Joachim Low in semifinala cu Spania.

Firma ”Sea Life Deutschland GmbH’ a cerut Oficiului pentru Armonizarea Pietei Interne a UE, cu sediul la Alicante (estul Spaniei), inregistrarea termenilor ‘Paul the octopulos’ si ‘Octopuklos Paul’, precum si ‘Krake Paul’, care in engleza, respectiv, in germana inseamna acelasi lucru:’caracatita Paul’.
Solicitarea acvariului din Oberhausen nu era prima de acest gen. Ea a fost precedata, inca din luna iulie, de o actiune a unei alte firme germane, ”R W Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH’, care a cerut rezervarea denumirii ‘Paul die krake’.
Si o persoana din Italia, Alessio Consorte, a cerut inregistrarea marcilor ‘Polpo Octopus Paul’, ‘Oracle Pau’ si ‘Octopus Paul’.
