El a fost unul dintre cei care au organizat revoltele anticomuniste din Cluj, din anul 1956. Apoi, Raul Volcinschi a fost protagonistul singurei evadari din beciurile Securitatii Cluj. In 1983, profesorul a participat la un complot esuat impotriva dictatorului, care urma sa fie pus in practica in timpul unei vizite de lucru a acestuia in Oltenia. vezi Romania libera
